The IODP scientific advisory body has two scientific evaluation panel, namely the Science Evaluation Panel (SEP) and the Environmental Protection and Safety Panel (EPSP), which are selected by IODP member states scientist delegates. They are responsible for the review of IODP scientific proposals. According to the agreement between the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the National Science Foundation of U.S., IODP-China has 1 government agency representative on the JOIDES Resolution Facility Board (JRFB), 4 scientist representatives on the SEP, 2 scientist representatives on the EPSP, and 1 representative at the European Consortium for Ocean Research Drilling Facility Board (ECORD-FB).
