The IODP-China Scientific Committee is composed of 20 experts from different institutions. The Scientific Committee is chaired by Professor Ding Zhongli from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the deputy directors are Professor Chen Jun from Nanjing University, Professor Zhu Weilin and Professor Jian Zhimin from Tongji University. Professor Wang Pinxian was invited as Academic Advisor. Professor Liu Zhifei from Tongji University serves as the Academic Secretary of the Scientific Committee. The key responsibilities of the Scientific Committee are to provide decision-making consultation and propose the scientific projects for China's participation in IODP, to review Chinese scientific drilling proposals, to recommend Chinese representatives and scientists to participate in IODP expeditions and on IODP panels (e.g. SEP/EPSP), and to organize IODP workshops, outreach and education activities, etc.
