Scientific ocean drilling is more than half a century old this year. Discoveries from scientific ocean drilling through the DSDP, ODP and IODP programs have helped reveal Earth’s history, and have been critical to shaping our understanding of how our planet works.

国际大洋发现计划（IODP, 2013-2023）已经执行过半，按照大洋钻探的传统，一般提前数年就开始讨论下一阶段的科学计划。

为凝聚共识，讨论我国科学家参加2023年后大洋钻探的科学计划和深海科技战略，在新科学计划制定中贡献中国智慧，中国IODP专家咨询委员会定于2019年8月15-16日在上海召开 “面向2023年后大洋钻探学术研讨会”（PROMISING Workshop: Promoting International Scientific Ocean Drilling）。
